My expectations on design, cultural curiosities and everything from street signs to TV ads are set quite high. Possibly too high - I'm pretty much expecting Tokyo to be a scene from Ghost In The Shell or Akira. Cyborgs can be seen everywhere, there are only skyscrapers and it's always night. Millions of billboards are the only thing that light up the dark, futuristic city that is ruled by corporations and Yakuza.
And surely in Kyoto there are no modern buildings what so ever but the railway station. Samurai walk the streets in full armor, all kinds of crafts are practised in the street, geishas glance us from behind their fans and everything is straight from a Hiroshige painting.
